Kathy Yates

Chief Executive Officer

Kathy joined Teachscape as president & chief operating officer in 2010 after successfully leading the turnaround of AllBusiness.com, an online resource center for small businesses which ultimately became part of Dun & Bradstreet. Before AllBusiness.com, Kathy was president and chief operating officer of CBS Marketwatch, a financial news and information enterprise that was acquired by Dow Jones in 2005. The earlier part of her career was spent in the newspaper business. In 1995, Kathy was recruited to join the corporate leadership of Knight Ridder as vice president, new media, a role that put her in charge of Internet strategy for all Knight-Ridder papers. Kathy's success and achievements throughout her career have earned her a reputation as a savvy operator in developing scalable business models for web-based media. She earned B.A. from Trinity College and an M.B.A. from Stanford University. 


Mark Atkinson

Founder & Chief Strategist

Since founding Teachscape in 1999, Mark has worked tirelessly to create an education company that is committed to improving the quality of instruction that U.S. children receive by improving the caliber of teaching they receive every day. Prior to Teachscape, Mark was a network news producer with extensive experience in reporting, producing and directing network news documentaries. He served as senior producer and manager of New Markets for CBS News Productions, where he developed new business opportunities focusing on multimedia production and the education market. He has directed and produced works with broadcast luminaries such as Mike Wallace and Peter Jennings and has received numerous awards, including the Gold Baton, the highest honor of the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards for work associated with reporting on the war in Bosnia; the Overseas Press Club Award; and an Emmy Award for reporting on the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Bosnia. Mark is a graduate of Yale University.


Jonathan Stowe

Chief Operating Officer

Jon oversees and directs the teams who are responsible for Teachscape's products, technology and platforms, and customer experiences. With 20 years of experience in software development, product management, technology strategy, and customer support at leading education companies, Jon joined Teachscape as chief technology officer in February 2011. Prior to this position, Jon served in senior executive roles at Pearson Education and Cengage Learning. In addition, he worked at McGraw-Hill, HarperCollins, and John Wiley and Sons in product and technology roles. He also served as CIO at Heald College. Jon is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.


Ken Cucarola

Chief Financial Officer 

Ken is a CPA who brings more than 20 years of financial experience to Teachscape as its chief financial officer. Ken joined Teachscape in 2009, and oversees the company's financial operations, which include reporting, planning and budgeting, cash flow management, purchasing, inventory management, product pricing, royalties, human resources, administration, and risk management. Before joining Teachscape, Ken was chief financial officer for three years at Livescribe, an Oakland-based builder of the first interactive, educational "smart pen." Before Livescribe, Ken was a vice president of Accretive Solutions, the largest privately-held accounting and finance consultancy in the U.S. Prior to Accretive Solutions, Ken spent 16 years in a variety of finance leadership positions with Chevron Corporation, including a three-year international assignment in Angola. Ken received his B.A. from Colorado State University.


Maryann Marrapodi

Chief Learning Officer 

Maryann is responsible for the overall development, alignment, and continuous improvement of Teachscape's strategic initiatives. In addition to her role as chief learning officer, she also leads the Instructional Effectiveness group which includes pre-K-12 and higher education content development, professional services and research. Prior to joining Teachscape, Maryann served as a senior partner for Collaborative Ventures Inc.; director of the NYC Mayor's Office of Early Childhood Services; director of the New Ventures Fund for the Edwin Gould Foundation; and program director for the National Council for Minorities in Education. In each position, she was responsible for developing comprehensive policies, programs, and funding strategies to serve the educational, social, health, and mental health needs of children and their families. As an educator with the NYC Department of Education, Maryann served in numerous roles as teacher, head of school, curriculum director and special assistant to the Chancellor of Schools. She holds M.A. degrees from The City College of New York, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Teachers College, Columbia University.


Lory Pilchik

Chief Marketing Officer 

Lory brings over 15 years of marketing, sales, and education sector experience to her role as chief marketing officer for Teachscape. She joined Teachscape in 2010 and is responsible for brand development, public relations, demand generation, events, research, advertising and creative services. Prior to joining Teachscape, she served as the U.S. education portfolio director for the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation where she was responsible for developing the grant making strategy, and for managing the educational investments in large urban school districts, charter organizations, and education reform organizations around the country. Prior to her role at the Foundation, Lory spent almost 10 years at Dell where she held executive leadership positions in the consumer and small-business marketing organizations. Earlier in her career, she worked in marketing and sales for IBM. Lory received a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at UNC, Chapel Hill.


Remington Fairlamb

Vice President, Sales 

Rem joined Teachscape as vice president of sales in 2009. In this role, he leads Teachscape's account executive team building partnerships with state educators, school districts and national educational associations. In addition, he is responsible for forecasting and achieving the company's top-line growth objectives for the pre-K-12 division. Rem has more than 20 years of sales leadership and general manager experience and has served as vice president of sales for Kaplan K12 Learning Services, where he built a sales organization that grew sales from $8M in 2002 to $56M in 2007. Prior to Kaplan, Rem served as the western region sales vice president for Waste Management. He received a B.A. from DePauw University and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.


Scott Noon

Vice President, Business Development  

Working with state leaders in both the governors' and education chiefs' offices, Scott consults to develop innovative teacher effectiveness solutions that align to state and federal mandates. Scott also champions Teachscape's vision for teacher effectiveness with educator preparation programs, and he collaborates with other business leaders in the education space to create mutually beneficial partnerships that enhance customer solutions, leverage both companies' marketing opportunities, and expand revenue. Having helped build Classroom Connect, Scott has developed a variety of professional development initiatives including online training portals and courseware, professional conferences, and on-site in-service programs. Just prior to coming to Teachscape, Scott spent three years as an assessment specialist and regional sales manager for Riverside Publishing Company. Enabling teachers and districts to use student performance data to accelerate student achievement is a key interest of Scott's as he seeks to help large districts implement systemic professional development solutions.

 

Ivan Montoya

Vice President, Program Services 

Ivan is the vice president of program services where he is responsible for the company's software and hardware product training. He brings to Teachscape over 18 years of experience helping companies grow and a passion for K-12 education. Prior to Teachscape, Ivan served as VP of Marketing at Meraki, a venture-backed wireless networking startup, where he led all aspects of marketing and helped double sales. Ivan also led marketing for the local search and communications business units of Yahoo!. At Covad Communications, Ivan launched a new business to sales of over $120M, and prior to that he worked at McKinsey & Company in their San Francisco, New York, and Texas offices. Ivan holds an M.B.A. and M.A. in education from Stanford and a B.A. in economics from Harvard.

 

Mary Ramsden

Vice President, Human Resources & Administration 

Mary joined Teachscape in 2005, bringing more than 14 years of experience in the human resources and administration fields. Most recently, Mary was director of human resources & administration at Vialta, Inc., an international consumer electronics company. Prior to Vialta, she was senior manager of human resources, administration, and facilities at iLux Corporation, which produced work flow software applications. Prior to relocating to the United States from England, Mary had more than 10 years of experience in personnel and administrative roles at various organizations, including Lloyds Bank in Cambridge. Mary attended secretarial college at Cambridge College of Arts and Technology.
