ARRA Innovation Fund
Race to the Top. With Teachscape.
The Race to the Top grants, the administration’s name for the ARRA Innovation and Incentive grant funds, are designed to support large scale dissemination, adoption, and implementation of promising practices in education which lead to increased student achievement. Through these grants the U.S. Department of Education will support states that have made significant progress in the following areas:
- Achieving equity in teacher distribution by increasing the number, and improving the distribution, of effective teachers and principals in high-poverty schools and local educational agencies.
- Improving the collection and use of data through the establishment of a longitudinal statewide data system.
- Enhancing the quality of academic assessments and the inclusion of children with disabilities and limited English proficient students in state assessments.
Race to the Top funds will be awarded to entities that have made significant gains in closing the achievement gap to:
- Expand successful work so that it may serve as a model for best practices
- Support partnerships between educational institutions, and the private sector for dissemination and resource sharing
- Identify and document best practices that can be shared, and taken to scale based on demonstrated success.
Race to the Top grant funds will be distributed through a competitive application process with the first round of grants being awarded in Fall 2009 and the second round of grants being awarded in Spring 2010.
