English Language Learners

These programs of study include best-practice videos developed with Dr. Kenji Hakuta, Dr. Guadalupe Valdes, and other researchers at Stanford University to provide a vision of effective strategies for instructing English language learners. They help develop a common language, enhance coaching skills, and identify ELL-specific look fors to improve teacher effectiveness.

Supporting English Language Learners: Strategies for Middle Schools

This program of study prepares instructional leaders to address the professional learning needs of teachers they support, improving student achievement through improved teaching practice with ELL students. It is a nine-session program of study that includes face-to-face professional learning, classroom application of learned strategies, online reflection and discussion, and extension of learning through further readings and online discussions.

Supporting English Language Learners: Building Literacy Skills in High Schools

The Building Literacy Skills in High Schools Program of Study prepares instructional leaders to address the professional learning needs of secondary school teachers in the area of English language development. The professional development program integrates a research-based professional learning methodology with a online and text-based learning resources that inform and focus the professional learning to realize the identified outcomes for instructional leaders and teachers of secondary school ELLs.
